Human Physiology is the science that deals with various functions of the human body, their control under normal condition and their regulation under different physiological and pathological conditions.
BDS students are taught the Physiology of different systems in the body. It includes general physiology, blood, nerve muscle physiology, cardio-vascular system, respiratory system, gastrointestinal system, central nervous system, autonomic nervous, special senses, renal physiology, endocrinology and reproductive system. The theoretical aspects are taught by the faculty members during the lecture hours. The Practical aspects are taught in the Physiology laboratory. The students develop their skills here and also learn to interpret the results of different procedures with special reference to clinical correlation.
Physiology comes from the word ‘Physiologicos’ which means ‘Discourse of natural knowledge’ that virtually means study of normal functioning of the living organisms. The role of this department is thereby is to impart the knowledge regarding how the human body maintains its normal functioning inspite of constant destabilizing forces in and around the body.
The department is involved in various activities, particularly regular classes of students, practicals, tutorials, seminars among the students. The department has dedicated and sincere staff members headed by Dr. Raj Puri. The able and quality assistance provided by Mrs. Jyoti Mehta along with technical staff members is key to run this department smoothly.
